As much as we'd like to: an 18kt gold jewel for less than €1800 is simply no longer possible

Occasionally, we receive requests to create an 18kt gold jewel for less than €1800, and we certainly understand why. However, due to the quality of the materials we work with, and all the hours we spend at the workbench, this is unfortunately not possible.

We can already see our accountant shaking her head from here 😉 If only because €1800 is actually €1487 due to the 21% VAT. And that's just the beginning…

— GOLD PRICE ONLINE ≠ GOLD COST FOR A GOLDSMITH

Perhaps you occasionally see the gold price passing by. However, that gram of gold you see online is not the same gram we see as goldsmiths. Do you see a gold price of, for example, €150 per gram? Then we quickly see 20-30% more.

To create your dream jewel according to the rules of the craft, we definitely need 4 to 5 grams of gold to start a basic fine ring. Because during the transformation from wire to jewel, all sorts of flakes and filings arise, remnants that can no longer be used afterwards, but which are absolutely necessary to shape your jewel.

Our online shopping basket for one wire alone quickly comes to €975, excluding VAT of course.

— WHEN CAN WE START?

Moreover, these ordered gold wires are delivered via insured transport, which adds another €80 in delivery costs 😉 Of course, we always try to combine several orders. Although with the rising gold price, we don't want to wait too long either.

— BEHIND AND NEXT TO THE WORKBENCHES

Behind and next to the workbenches, Marjolein, Séverine and Jolien also spend a lot of working hours. 🙂

This is because gold comes in the form of a wire or sheet. We then lovingly roll, saw, shape, solder, file and sand it in our workshop behind our equipped workbenches.

And then, of course, we still have to maintain our workshop…

Just think of our equipped workbenches with milling cutters, saws, sandpaper, files, hammers, pliers, scales, loupes, forging rods, calipers, solder, rubber, drills and polishing or matting brushes, all of which occasionally require replacement.

Also the machines such as our ultrasonic, boiling apparatus, microscope, hanging and micromotors and compressor come with a certain lifespan, just like the oxygen and gas cylinders to transform your gold wires into Ramoon jewels at high temperatures.

We search for the best materials for your jewel, keep you updated during the forging and creation process, and are delighted to offer you a nice coffee during your workshop visit. In addition, we love to make every Ramoon jewel a gift moment, even for yourself, with a beautiful box, pouch and ribbon as the cherry on top 🙂

So… as much as we would like to offer jewellery for less than €1800, it has become almost impossible.

'And will I then have a dazzling sparkling ring with all the bells and whistles?' Unfortunately 🙈 We haven't even taken into account, for example, making settings, gemstones or setting diamonds.

Of course, in theory it can always be less… but that often happens by compromising on the quality or sturdiness of your jewel. And not when you choose quality raw materials like 18kt gold, untreated gemstones and natural diamonds, just like us. So you can wear your jewel for a long time ❤️
